UNDER THE HAMMER is offering you this week the chance to buy Pool. For this [Un]original piece, Simon took his inspiration from the early 80’s David Hockney photo collage series Joiners made up of polaroid photographs.
Not a huge fan of photography and the limited perspective of a stationary camera; Hockney sought a way to remedy the lack of fluidity, movement and time perception of this media. His problem was that a single photograph can only show one point of view, usually for a small period of time. Following Hockneys tendency to use friends and family in his photographs, Williams used, for this piece, a photograph of his own children playing in a pool. When Hockney settled in California, he developed a great interest in pools and water as an artistic subject.
